# About us: why AsuntoAnalyysi was made > The story behind AsuntoAnalyysi: the pain of buying a home, putting open data from Statistics Finland to use, and why the service is free and ad-free. When you browse Oikotie, your eye is drawn to the kitchen handles more readily than to the year the pipe renovation was finished. Without up-to-date data or expertise it is hard to tell, even roughly, whether a home is priced at market level or not. It does not help that the details that affect the value are scattered across different parts of the listing. I shared the pain with my friends and many could relate. Most of those who had bought a home had a Google Sheet built with Claude or ChatGPT, with the details of the homes pasted in. Often the AI's estimates of how different factors affect the price had not been checked against, for example, Statistics Finland. I started digging into Statistics Finland's data sources, read the literature, talked to experts and pieced together what I found. That is how the first version of AsuntoAnalyysi came about. Our search for a new home goes on, and so does the development of AsuntoAnalyysi. The service is free now and will stay free. The site has no marketing cookies, and the data sources will be kept as transparent as possible. The plan is to let users sign in and set their own preferences for the factors that affect the price. Not all of us value a sauna, for example, even if people do on average. The tool is still very much a work in progress.
